The 2026 Pro Tool Innovation Awards for Pneumatic Tools and Nailers showed off many cordless innovations, but there were also winners for accessories and electric solutions. With continued innovation in battery runtime and heat management, cordless tools continue to give pneumatic and electric tools a run for their money. Though runtime has been all but eliminated as a concern, cordless still face the issue of greater weight due to the addition of brushless motors and a battery pack to replace the hose.
WINNER – Accessories
DEWALT DZNRNVSA Vinyl Siding Adapter

What they said:
Quickly and easily align nails into vinyl siding slots, allowing a gap for expansion or contraction with the DEWALT® vinyl siding adapter. Featuring a high-strength magnet to secure the adapter to the nailer, this roofing nailer accessory offers an all-metal construction for durability. A stabilizing bar helps drive nails straight, and the sleek design helps optimize the user’s line of sight. The DEWALT® vinyl siding adapter is compatible with the DEWALT® cordless roofing nailers (dcn45rnb and dcn45rnd1).
What we say:
What makes the small DZNRNVSA Vinyl Siding Adapter innovative is the fact that DeWalt didn’t make its users buy a whole new tool simply to get the features and convenience of a siding nailer. Instead, they made an accessory that uses a high-strength magnet to adhere easily to their existing roofing nailers. The accessory is all-metal, so it won’t snap under use, and a stabilizing bar helps drive nails straight into vinyl siding slots with a built-in spacer to properly gap the nail and allow for expansion.

WINNER – Electric Air Compressors
Alton Industry Limited Group Ridgid 300 PSI Compressor

What they said:
The RIDGID 4 Gallon 300 PSI High Pressure Air Compressor redefines what a compact jobsite compressor can deliver by combining the air capacity of a traditional 14-gallon, 150 PSI compressor into the footprint of a lightweight 4 gallon unit. Its innovative 300 PSI high-pressure system and 2-stage pump technology store significantly more usable air, providing up to 3.5 times more air volume than conventional 150 PSI compressors. This higher-pressure design minimizes pressure drops during rapid firing, delivers faster tool response, and the aluminum tank construction also eliminates rust risk while reducing weight by up to 50%.
Beyond its compact size, the compressor is engineered to maximize productivity and durability. The 300-hour pump life rating at a 50% duty cycle provides long-lasting performance, while dual universal quick couplers allow two users or tools to operate simultaneously without sacrificing consistent air delivery. With a 4.0 CFM output at 90 PSI, quick recovery time, and a durable aluminum tank, the compressor delivers professional-grade performance in a portable package. By combining higher pressure, greater usable air capacity, rust-free construction, and dual-tool capability, the RIDGID 4 Gallon 300 PSI compressor improves upon traditional portable compressors and creates a new standard for compact, high-performance air solutions.
What we say:
Ridgid is making a move to help users appreciate the advantages of using a high-pressure compressor. The 4 Gallon 300 PSI Compressor is like packing over three times the volume into a smaller package, thanks to the way it functions. The 300 PSI, two-stage system delivers up to 3.5 times the usable air of conventional 150 PSI compressors—more than enough to support two nailers simultaneously, or use it at an impressive 4.0 CFM at 90 PSI. Our judges thought the use of an aluminum tank to reduce both weight and rust was a great feature, and the 300-hour pump life rating means it will last a good while before needing to be serviced or replaced.

WINNER – Cordless Finish Nailers
Makita XNB04 18V LXT® Brushless 2” 18 ga. Brad Nailer

What they said:
The 18V LXT® 2” Brad Nailer, 18 Gauge (XBN04) delivers class-leading cordless performance with up to 2X faster nailing speeds, compared to the previous model, XNB01. Delivering the power of pneumatic and the portability of cordless, the XNB04 benefits pros in many different industries, including fine woodworkers, framers, carpenters, homebuilders, as well as plumbers and electricians. The XNB04 belongs to the brad nailer fastening category, accommodating 9/16”-2” (18 ga.) nails, with a maximum magazine capacity of 110 and a total weight (with battery on-board) of 6.1 lbs, and a tool-less depth adjustment. The total lineup of LXT finish nailers allows a single contractor, or a team of contractors, to be more efficient by staying on one tool platform for all their needs without the need for an air compressor.
What we say:
When we saw that Makita had completely redesigned its second-gen cordless 2-inch 18-gauge brad nailer and had doubled the speed at which it could fire nails, we perked up. The first-gen tool wasn’t slow, but additional speed typically means a more confident user experience. The tool also weighs just 6.1 pounds with a battery—over 1.5 pounds less than the XNB01! You also get a 110-nail magazine and tool-free depth adjustment to top it all off.

Metabo HPT NR1890DRBQRY Framing Nailer

What they said:
For the first time, cordless nailers deliver true pneumatic performance without compromise. Metabo HPT is creating a new category: Cordless Pneumatic™. The 18V Cordless Pneumatic™ 21° Framing Nailer (NR1890DRBQRY) delivers true pneumatic performance without the hose. Firing up to six nails per second with consistent drive quality from the first nail to the last, it matches the speed, power, and reliability professionals expect from pneumatic tools while eliminating compressors, hoses, and setup time – with no trip hazards, just grab your tool and go.
Powered by Air Spring Drive +™ Technology and Metabo HPT’s MultiVolt 10Ah T·PWR™ tabless battery, this Corldess Pneumatic™ Nailer delivers up to 1,170 nails per charge. An extended‑capacity magazine delivers the reload frequency and workflow professionals expect from a pneumatic nailer. Lighter than competitors, backed by a lifetime tool-body warranty, and engineered for fast field‑serviceability, it is not just another cordless nailer – it is the first true pneumatic replacement.
What we say:
Metabo HPT has dropped the hammer with the NR1890DRBQRY, stating that it is on par with pneumatic nailers—at least in terms of nailing speed. They’re so confident, they have trademarked the name Cordless Pneumatic™. This was a scenario where the judges saw the tool and did a double-take. The entire shape and design of the tool look more like a pneumatic nailer than a battery-powered tool. The revamped Air Spring Drive system and brushless motor in this tool deliver firing speeds up to SIX NAILS PER SECOND, with support for 2″ to 3-1/2″ fasteners and both bump and sequential operation. We know some roofing pros who are going to be very eager to put this tool to the test!
